MainConcept and Qualabs preview per-session video quality monitoring at IBC2026
A proof of concept combines embedded quality scores with DASH delivery and CMSD/CMCD reporting.
An IBC demonstration to watch
In a September 4 announcement ahead of IBC2026, MainConcept described a streaming-quality proof of concept developed with Qualabs. The company lists its showcase for September 11–14 in Amsterdam. This article highlights that earlier announcement as the event begins; it is not a report from the demonstration floor.
How the prototype works
MainConcept says its HEVC and AVC encoders insert per-frame VMAF-E quality scores into the video bitstream. Qualabs’ origin reads the scores from DASH segments, feeding a per-session dashboard using CMSD and CMCD. The vendor presents this as a way to supplement infrastructure metrics with information about picture quality.
Questions for operators
Our takeaway: ask how the scores relate to viewer experience, what player integration is required, and how reporting behaves at scale. A proof of concept is useful evidence of an integration approach, but independent validation is needed before assuming production performance or compatibility with an existing service.
